For many years garden centres have often reduced nursery operations to concentrate on retail, but do the current challenges and consequences of Brexit affecting the availability and supply of plants, increasing costs incurred from imports, plant health legislation and soaring utilities and labour, all shrinking the profit margin, offer new opportunities?

Join Tyfu Cymru for an opportunity to explore the options for you to increase your profit margin, grow your sales and change direction by growing more of your own stock. Growing your own stock also gives you security of having stock for the changing demand and being prepared for any stock shortages.

Neville Stein – Horticulture Business Consultant and Hort week columnist will deliver a workshop looking at the opportunities for growers to become grower retailers. Understanding the rationale behind why to become a grower / retailer and studying the data from UK and Wales to highlight this opportunity.

Through the Tyfu Cymru project Neville has been working with Gruff Pugh of Pugh’s Nursery Caerphilly to repurpose and utilise fully a newly refurbished nursery site that supplies into their two garden centres. Within this workshop they will outline the training project including the aims and objectives of the training, the approach taken to meet the aims and objectives , key results to date, expected results in 2024 and the key learning from the process.
